The long awaited skate park is moving forward. Funding has been agreed by Hinckley & Bosworth Council and groundwork's will start in Early June.

The Council has been in discussions with the Environmental Health team at Hinckley and Bosworth to overcome some issues but the Environmental Officer are now happy with our proposals.

THE NEXT exciting phase in the history of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust was launched on Monday, March 3.

The Trust in Nuneaton has decided to make an application to the Secretary of State for Health to become a Foundation Trust. This means that it would stay in the NHS and continue to share its values - providing free, high standard health care based on need. But it would involve the community much more closely in developing services to suit local needs.

The Parish Council will be adding a further dog bin on Elwell Avenue. This come as a request from the Borough Council's Dog Warden. The Council will now be selecting a site for the dog bin and consulting with local residents.

The Parish Council now has the responsibility of the Cemetery Car Park after the lease was formally transferred from the Borough Council to the Parish Council. The remainder of the proposed land is being looked at carefully before being transferred over.

Barwell Parish Council at thier meeting on the 3rd April 08 agreed to support the campaign to encourage retailers,businesses and commercial manufacturers to reduce excessive packaging, in particular the widespread use of plastic bags

As you may be aware, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council is currently undertaking a trial of the collection of food waste from around 1,200 homes in Burbage.

The Borough Council will be extending this trial to a second trial collection commencing in April and this trial is to be carried out in Barewell.

Barwell Prish Council have been awarded an "oscar" at the Leicestershire Parish Councils annual website awards. The award was for "Development".

The winner of the Parish Council Logo Competition was announced last week as the Councils very own Councillor Tessa Simmans. Congratulations to Tess and we wish you good luck in switching on the Christmas Lights this year.

The fantastic news is that the Council have received an Awards for All Big Lottery Grant for £9,725 to go towards capital equipment in the new council office. The money will be spent on furniture and computer equipment.

At a meeting of the Parish Council on Monday 19th November, Council agreed to sign a five year lease of 10 High Street in Barwell which will be the new council offices.

Thanks to mindless vandals more of the tax payers money will be spent in clearing broken glass from the play area on The Common off Dovecote Way.

The little darlings also pulled the gate off its hinges allowing vehicle access onto the park.

The Council has it's first piece of land.

Russet Close Public Open Space was transferred from Barratt Homes to the Parish Council.

A grounds maintenance contract has also been agreed and will start in November.

The Council have been asked to provide a small area to house a new sub station.
The sub station will make the overhead pylons obsolete and reduce the number of power cuts in Barwell.

The area identified as the most appropriate would be an area of 16 square meters by the entrance into the tip. The underground cable would then go up towards the flood retention basin.

Barwell Parish Council will be running a skateboard afternoon on Sunday 21st October 2007 at Barwell Park, Stapletone Lane, Barwell from 1pm to 5pm.

Due to safety concerns the previous skateboard equipment had to be removed and the Parish Council are now looking into replacing the equipment. So that the local people who use the skate park can be involved in the consultation, the Council is hiring a portable skate park so that locals can be consulted on which equipment they prefer and to come up with a design of a new skate park with help from skate park designers.
